    Let the number of persons be 'x'.

    96/(x - 4) - 96/x = 4

    1/(x - 4) - 1/x = 4/96         [Dividing by 96 both sides]

    1/(x - 4) - 1/x = 1/24

    x2 - 4x - 96 = 0

    (x - 12)(x + 8) = 0

    x = 12

    Hence x - 4 = 12 - 4 = 8
