Increase in housing loan limit under priority sector lending

RBI directs banks to enhance housing loan limits for eligibility under priority sector lending
Reserve Bank of India has notified them to enhance housing loan limits to individuals up to Rs 35 lakh in metropolitan centres (which would have a population of over 10 lakhs) and Rs 25 lakh in other centres, under Priority sector Lending (PSL).
About Priority Sector lending target: The overall objective of priority sector lending programme is to ensure that adequate institutional credit flows into some of the vulnerable sectors of the economy, which may not be attractive for the banks from the point of view of profitability.
