The Reserve Bank of India lowered the repo rate by 25 basis points to 6.25% on 7th February 2019.

• This is the first time in 17 months that the central bank has cut the rate.
• The reverse repo rate, too, was lowered to 6%, and the bank rate to 6.25%.
• The repo rate is the interest rate at which RBI lends to commercial banks.
