The 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad is being hosted by the state of Tamil Nadu. This is the first time India is hosting the international event. The world’s biggest team chess championship, with players from 187 countries, is organised at Mamallapuram, near Chennai. The international event was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
