Arunachal Pradesh Explanation: A new species of old world monkey was recorded in the Arunachal Pradesh region by a team of experts from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) and the University of Calcutta. i. The species was named as Sela macaque ( Macaca selai), after Arunachal's Sela Pass. Study has revealed that this pass has geographically separated Sela macaque from Arunachal macaque ( Macaca munzala) of Tawang district for approximately two million years. ii. Sela macaque belongs to the sinica species-group of Macaca.
