Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code states that a person commits the crime of sedition if a person brings hatred or contempt, or excites disaffection towards the government established according to the law. It prescribes the maximum punishment of life imprisonment. The Centre told the Supreme Court that the provisions of the law (Section 124A) will be re-examined and reconsidered.
