The Madhya Pradesh Kala Parishad organizes the Khajuraho Dance Festival, a one-week classical dance festival held annually beside the Khajuraho temples located in the Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh. This festival takes place from 20th to 26th February.
Overview:
With performances by some of the top practitioners in the field, this festival celebrates the diversity of Indian classical dance genres such as Bharathanatyam, Kathak, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Kathakali, and Manipuri. Recently, modern Indian dance has been included.
In an open auditorium, generally in front of the Chitragupta Temple which is dedicated to Surya i.e. the Sun God, and the Vishvanatha Temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the dances are performed.
Renowned dance performers from abroad and India gathers to showcase their talents.
Khajuraho Dance Festival 2022
This year’s Khajuraho Dance Festival is the 48th edition of this festival. In this festival, the Madhya Pradesh State Rupankar Kala Award and National Kalidas Award for dance will be presented to the various artists.
This year’s festival will feature a number of major events which will focus on the cultural landscape of the various genres of Indian dance.
Visitors will be able to see an exhibition focusing on Kathak-Nepathya, as well as art displays from other countries and conversations with art experts and artists.
