A new species of butterfly was accidentally discovered by a photographer taking pictures of insects in Sikkim.
Sonam Wangchuk Lepcha, from Dzongu in north Sikkim, has been photographing butterflies since 2016, but little did he know that one day he will make a discovery of new species. Wangchuk Lepcha sends the photos he clicks of the butterflies to the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) in Bengaluru to identify the insects and upload them on the ‘Butterflies of India’ website.
