Central government allotted more of Rs 10000 crore on November 25, 2021 for MGNREGA Scheme.

Key Points

• While allotting the fund, central government stated that, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) is a demand-driven scheme.
• Government also clarified that during financial year 2021-2022, more than 240 crore person-days has been generated, so far.
• Furthermore, more than Rs 68,568 crore released for implementing the scheme in States and UTs.

Increased allocation for the scheme

Central government has increased the fund allocations for financial year 2021-22 by 18 percent as compared to the last financial year as budget estimate. Ministry had allocated Rs 50,000 crore additional funds for MGNREGA scheme above the Budget Estimate, so far. Recently, Ministry of Finance allocated additional funds of Rs 10,000 crore for the scheme as an interim measure.
