Under the “One District, One Product (ODOP) initiative” of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, first consignment of Kashmiri walnuts was flagged off from Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, recently.
Key Points
Why this consignment was sent?
‘One district, One product’ team recognised that walnuts were being imported into India on a large scale, despite the huge availability of Kashmir walnuts. Thus, the team started an in-depth market analysis and stakeholder consultations in Kashmir. Importers of walnuts were contacted. With the help of dedicated handholding at both ends, the team was able to facilitate the procurement. Such initiative would also boost the “Aatma Nirbhar Bharat campaign”.
