Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, launched COVID-19 Affected Livelihood Support Scheme on August 23, 2021.

• This scheme was launched in a bid to provide assistance to those who had severely affected by COVID-19 pandemic in Manipur.
• Chief Minister noted on the occasion that, the State Government had been working sincerely with an aim to uplift poor and weaker sections. Government is there for people to serve them always.
• This scheme was introduced considering the economic dislocations, that severely affected the livelihood of large percentage of the population. It has led to an inability to maintain a basic minimum standard of living.
• In order to avail the benefits of scheme, chief minister urged the public to be sincere and to avoid making any false document while applying for any schemes or scholarships in order to ensure that benefit could reach the targeted and eligible beneficiaries.
• Financial assistance under the Livelihood Support Scheme was distributed to some beneficiaries like street vendors, public transport drivers, van drivers, and artists on the occasion of launch of the scheme.

The northeastern state of India, with its capital in Imphal, is bounded by the Nagaland in the north, Mizoram in the south and Assam in the west. It also shares borders with two regions of Myanmar namely- Sagaing Region in the east and Chin State in the south. The state is spread over an area of 22,327 square kilometres. It has a population of 3 million. Meitei group is in majority group in the state. Other tribes living in the state include- Meitei Pangals (Manipuri Muslims), Kuki or Zo tribes, Naga tribes, and other communities. They speak a variety of Sino-Tibetan languages.
