• The 47th G7 summit was held in Cornwall, United Kingdom, on 11–13 June 2021, in hybrid mode.
• UK holds the presidency of the G7 for 2021.
• The theme for the Summit was ‘Build Back Better’ .
• The leaders of all seven G7 member states as well as representatives of the European Union participated in the Summit.
• Apart from this, Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi participated in the Outreach Sessions of the G7 Summit on 12 and 13 June in virtual format.
• It must be noted that the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, invited leaders from India, South Korea, South Africa (Cyril Ramaphosa) and Australia as Guest Countries for the G7 Summit.

Main Agenda

• The main topic of conversation for the summit was Covid recovery, including “a stronger global health system that can protect us all from future pandemics”.
• Climate change and trade were other topics of discussion.

India

• While addressing the Summit, PM Modi called for a ‘One Earth, One Health’ approach and global “unity, leadership and solidarity”, to prevent future pandemics, in addition to emphasising the special responsibility of democratic and transparent societies
• PM also highlighted India’s ‘whole of society’ approach to fight the pandemic, and also committed support to improve global health governance.

G7 countries

• The seven G7 countries are Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US.
• Apart from these 7 nations, EU participates in all discussions as a guest, represented jointly by the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission.
