NICL Launches First Ever Insurance Policy for Himalayan Yaks

The National Research Centre on Yak (NRCY) at Dirang in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh has tied up with the National Insurance Company Ltd. (NICL) for insuring yaks.
This is the first such instance in the country that an insurance policy for highly valuable Himalayan cattle/yak have been approved.
The insurance policy will be a big boon for the yak owners, as it will shield them against a number of risks posed by weather calamities, diseases, in-transit mishaps, surgical operation, strike or riots and permanent total disability for breeding or stud yaks.
The policy will provide financial security to the yak rearing communities in Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh, incase of loses incurred due to deaths of the animal, amid climate change, diseases, attacks by wild animals, etc.
