IIT Ropar Develops IoT Device ‘AmbiTag’ to Record Real-Time Ambient Temperature of Perishable Goods during Transportation

The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar, in Punjab, has developed a first-of-its-kind Internet of Things (IoT) device named ‘AmbiTag’ which can record real-time ambient temperature during the transportation of perishable products such as vaccines, body organs and blood.
AmbiTag is a USB-shaped device, capable of continuously recording the temperature, ranging from -40 to 80, of its immediate surroundings in any time zone for a full 90 days on a single charge.
This is in contrast to most of the similar devices in the international market which can record data only for a duration of 30 – 60 days.
AmbiTag will generate an alert when the temperature goes beyond a pre-set limit.
By connecting the USD with any computer, the recorded data can be retrieved in user-defined format.
The device will help the user to understand whether the transported item is usable or not, particularly items like vaccines, organs, and blood.
