India attracts record FDI Inflow of $81.72 billion during 2020-21

According to data released by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the total Foreign direct investments (FDI) inflow attracted by India during 2020-21 (FY21) stood at US$ 81.72 billion.
This is the highest-ever total FDI inflow attracted by India and 10% more than the previous financial year. In FY20, India attracted gross inflows of $74.39 billion.
Besides, the FDI equity inflow grew by 19% in the F.Y. 2020-21 (US$ 59.64 billion) compared to F.Y. 2019-20 (US$ 49.98 billion).
The computer software and hardware sector attracted the highest inflows with around 44 per cent share of the total FDI equity inflows. It was followed by construction (infrastructure) activities (13 per cent) and services sector (8 per cent), respectively.
Singapore retained its position as the the largest source of FDI for the third consecutive year, with 29 percent of the total investments. It was followed by the US (23%), and Mauritius (9%).
In terms of Indian states, Gujarat is the top recipient state during 2020-21 with 37 percent share of total FDI equity inflows, followed by Maharashtra (27%) and Karnataka (13%).
