Shakoor Rather, a journalist for the Press Trust of India (PTI), has written his first novel, "Life in the Clock Tower Valley."
The book, published by "Speaking Tiger", tells the primitive past of Kashmir, the painful present and the eternally uncertain future.
It also contains historical and political knowledge about Kashmir, as well as rarely discussed environmental issues.
Apart from discussing various aspects of life in the Valley, the author goes into great detail on how different characters appear in its streets during different seasons: “life-size scarecrows during summers to frighten the unrelenting birds flying over the paddy fields, and the ceremonial snowmen that thrill the neighbourhood children celebrating the much-anticipated snowfall.”
