Loktak Power Station (3 x 35 MW) is a multipurpose storage scheme to harness the hydro power potential of Loktak lake fed by Khuga and Imphal river. It is located in Churachandpur district of Manipur. The project comprises of a 10.7 m high, 58.8 m long Barrage with 3.81 m dia, 6.64 Km long head race tunnel. Loktak Lake is the largest freshwater lake in Northeast India and is famous for the phumdis (heterogeneous mass of vegetation, soil and organic matter at various stages of decomposition) floating over it. This ancient lake plays an important role in the economy of Manipur.
