Ajanta Caves located in which state?

The Ajanta Caves are 30 rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments which date from the 2nd century BCE to about 480 CE in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra state of India. It has inscriptions about his short rule. The local feudalistic lord and king – Upendragupta oversaw the construction and built cave 17-20 and 29 under his patronage. In the mid-460s, all work on in Ajanta broke off in the “Recession” caused by the local king's fear of an attack by the aggressive neighbouring Asmakas. These caves were excavated as a part of the first wave of cave architecture in India. It became an important center for Buddhist religion and art under the enlightened patronage of the Vakataka rulers.
