World Bank predicts India's FY21 GDP growth at 1.5 - 4 %

World Bank announced India’s economic growth is likely to range between 1.5% and 4% in FY21 depending on the severity of the spread of covid-19 pandemic and the duration of the ongoing nationwide lockdown announced by the government.
The World Bank cautioned that if the current lockdowns were prolonged, the economic impact could be even worse than is captured in the forecasts above. “A lockdown that is in effect for 2-4 months could cut manufacturing and services production in half during that time, as envisaged in the forecast range. However, production would quickly come online again.
This is the worst growth performance to be recorded by India since the 1991 liberalisation, as the coronavirus outbreak severely disrupts the economy.
For 2019-20, India will grow 4.8 percent to 5 percent.
Growth is expected to rebound to 5% in Fiscal 2021-22 as the impact of COVID-19 dissipates.
