United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) recently released the 2019 edition of the State of World Population report titled ‘Unfinished Business: the pursuit of rights and choices for all’.The 2019 State of the World Population Report reflects on the current state of sexual and reproductive health.The year 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of UNFPA's founding and the 25th anniversary the International Conference on Population and Development in Cairo.The report includes, for the first time, data on women’s ability to make decisions over three key areas: sexual intercourse with their partner, contraception use and health care.UNFPA report says despite global gains in securing sexual and reproductive rights over the past 50 years, many population groups are still left behind. Activists, advocates, public health specialists and many others have pushed relentlessly for the transformations we see around us today, but much remains to be done.

Women’s sexual and reproductive autonomy was greatest in two countries: the Philippines and Ukraine, where 81 per cent of women are empowered to make these decisions for themselves. Notably, the report found that 90 percent of women in Ukraine demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of HIV prevention methods. Ninety-three percent of women in Ukraine have their demand for contraception satisfied and 82 percent of women were able to make an informed choice about their contraceptive method as a result of the information they received from their health care providers.
