Arunachal Pradesh Becomes First State to Sign MoU with IUCN to red-listing of orchids

Arunachal Pradesh inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) to red-listing of orchids. Arunachal Pradesh becomes the 1st state in the country to initiate the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) red listing at the state level.
The Department of Environment and Forest is the nodal department for execution of the project.
The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species is a critical indicator of the health and conservation status of the world’s biological species. It uses a set of criteria to evaluate the extinction risk of thousands of species and subspecies.
The project will spread across 12 months, wherein training workshops for Red List Assessment will be conducted by experts from IUCN.
