India approves Rs 63,000 crore deal to acquire 26 Rafale Marine fighter jets from France

India has cleared a mega defence deal to acquire 26 Rafale Marine fighter jets from France, estimated at over Rs.63,000 crore.

  • The deal, estimated to be India's biggest fighter jet deal, is expected to be officially signed later this month during the visit of French Defence Minister Sébastien Lecornu.
  • The agreement, cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Security, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will lead to the Indian Navy receiving 22 single-seater and four twin-seater Rafale-M jets.
  • All 26 new Rafale-M jets are scheduled to be delivered within 37 to 65 months from the date of contract signing, with full induction expected by 2030–31, according to the report.
