The Ministry of Education on April 10 announced the appointment of four new members to the University Grants Commission for a term of three years or till further orders.

• Zoho Corporation CEO and Founder Sridhar Vembu and National Stock Exchange’s (NSE) CEO Ashish Kumar Chauhan are now members of the UGC.
• The other two appointments include Prof. (Retd.) Sachidananda Mohanty, Former Vice Chancellor, Central University of Odisha and Prof. Shashikala Gulabrao Wanjari, Vice Chancellor, National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), New Delhi.
• Vembu and Chauhan’s appointments are particularly of key interest as the two come with an experience of private sector leadership, especially at a time when the government aims for higher financial inclusion and upskilling of the youth.
