In its 2017 version, the Bill had been approved in the Lower House, but could not get past the Rajya Sabha and lapsed after dissolution of the 16th Lok Sabha. Earlier this week, the Lok Sabha cleared the Bill, paving the way for it to be considered and passed in the Rajya Sabha.
