Consider the following statements:
1. 'O' blood has no antigens, and is referred to as universal donor blood.
2. 'AB' blood can receive blood from any group as well as donate blood to any group.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
1 only
2 only
Both 1 and 2
Neither 1 Nor 2
O blood has no antigens, and is referred to as universal donor blood, so that will not cause a reaction. So a person with AB blood has all of the antigens that are possible, and an O negative person has no antigens that would cause a reaction. Universal recipients have type AB blood and can receive a blood transfusion from a person with any blood type. The immune system of a person with AB blood will accept blood from all possible donors., but cannot donate blood to any group other than AB.
