Prime Minister Narendra Modi represented India at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit, 2019 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The leaders of the SCO countries signed a joint declaration on June 14 at their summit, calling for greater cooperation among member countries and reaffirming their intent to ensure security for their region. Earlier PM Modi in his address said that countries sponsoring, aiding and funding terrorism must be held accountable. He called for a greater cooperation among the SCO countries in combating terrorism, promoting economy, alternate energy and healthcare as he outlined India's commitment to peace and economic prosperity in the region. On the sidelines of the summit, PM Modi also held bilateral meetings. Russia will now take over the SCO chairmanship. The parties have agreed to hold the next summit in the Russian city of Chelyabinsk on July 22-23, 2020.
