Tropical evergreen forests are found in the western slope of the Western Ghats, hills of the north-eastern region and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Forest found in heavy rainfall areas (more than 200cm) with short dry seasons. It has luxuriant vegetation from trees to creepers. Ebony, mahogany, rosewood, rubber and cinchona are some of the commercially important trees found in these forests. Elephants, monkey, lemur and deer make these forests their habitat. The jungles of Assam and West Bengal house the one horned rhinoceros. Plenty of birds, bats, sloth, scorpions and snails are also found in these rain forests.
