For Gandhiji, it is not for the State to enforce but for the individual to deman it through soul force. The core of FR lies in the sanction provided by Gandhiji in his technique of Satyagraha. Hence the spirit of equality vociferated by Gandhiji pervades in Article 14.
Article 25, 26 and 27 in the Fundamental rights guarantees freedom of religion and is the foundation of ‘secularism’. These provisions does not subscribes to western notions of secularism which advocate neat separation between religion and the state. Instead, these provisions come closer to Gandian notion of ‘sarva dharma sambhava’, that is equal treatment of all religions.
