The most important cause of the rise of these new religions lay in the spread of new agricultural economy. The vedic practice of killing cattle indiscriminately in sacrifices stood in the way of progress of agriculture. The cattle wealth slowly decimated. Many new sects which started promoted vegetarianism, non violence and discouraged accumulation of wealth.
With increase in agriculture and trade the economic status of Vaishyas improved drastically. Now they also wanted to scale the social ladder. So a large number of people from vaishya community were attracted towards these new cults as they were against caste based division.
There was no significant change in the status of women in society. So that cannot be considered as a reason for the growth of these new cults.
Also, Although these religions gave a refuge to shudras to some extent, there was no change in their social status as well. No historical evidence is there where it can be concluded that shurdras revolted violently against the Brahmans.
