Which of these are the result of moderating effect of the sea on the climate of India?
1. The people of the Konkan coast have hardly any idea of the seasonal rhythm of temperature.
2. The western coast of India receives more rainfall in general than the eastern coast from the Southwest branch of monsoon.
3. The coastal regions in summer season are isothermal.
4. There is an increased frequency of land and sea breezes along the coasts.
Select the correct answer using the codes given below.
1, 3 and 4 only
1, 2 and 4 only
2 and 4 only
1, 2, 3 and 4
The second statement is true as regards the Indian monsoon but this is due to the factors of relief and topography and not due to the moderating effect of sea on the climate. The western Ghats trap the Arabian Sea branch of the southwest monsoon. The Bay of Bengal branch of the south- westerly winds strike first the Arakan mountains and then deviate towards India. Hence, the eastern coast(especially the Tamil Nadu coast) falls on the leeward side for the Arabian Sea branch and the Bay of Bengal branch runs parallel to the coast and strikes the Arakan hills. All the other statements are correct and have been picked directly from the NCERT.
