With reference to the earth's interior, study the following statements and identify the correct one:
Primary waves are longitudinal waves and can pass through liquid, solid and gases alike
Secondary waves are analogous to light waves and can travel through gases only
Surface waves are the fastest and travel through the earth's crust only
The earthquake waves travel along straight paths in the earth's interior
Secondary waves cannot pass through gases and do not reach the earth's centre. Surface waves are slowest of all the earthquake waves. They travel at on average velocity 3 km/sec as compared to secondary waves and primary waves. The earthquake waves do not travel along the straight paths; they follow curved paths because they suffer refraction due to varying density within the earth.
