What is a meteor?
A rapidly moving star.
A piece of matter which has entered the earth's atmosphere from outer space.
Part of constellation.
A comet without tail.
Meteors are the pieces of matter which have entered the earth's atmosphere from outer space by the attraction of the earth's gravitational force. When a meteor enters into the earth's atmosphere, it burns up due to frictional heat of the air and glows as quick streak of light which is called meteors. Majority of meteors start glowing at an altitude of 100-120 km and extinguish at 80-88 km. On being heated by friction of air, the meteors produce the impression of shooting stars.
