• China has developed a massive bomb. China's defence industry giant NORINCO for the first time showcased the aerial bomb, the country's largest non-nuclear bomb.
• It is dubbed as the Chinese version of the "Mother of All Bombs" due to its huge destruction potential that is claimed to be only second to nuclear weapons, the daily said.
• The bomb was airdropped by an H-6K bomber and caused a gigantic explosion, showed a promotional video released by China North Industries Group Corporation Limited (NORINCO) on its website at the end of December.

MOB of USA

• Weighing roughly 10,000 kg, and measuring 10 metres in length and a metre in width, the MOAB is a very high yield conventional GPS-guided munition, which was designed in 2002 by the US Air Force Research Laboratory.
• It was developed by the Alabama-based aeronautics company Dynetics at a reported cost of $ 16 million each for the Iraq War, and was first tested in 2003. But it had never been used in action until now.
• This bomb is different for two reasons. One, it packs in 8,000 kg of explosives — in comparison, the average weight of most deployed conventional bombs is roughly 250 kg. Two, it is a thermobaric weapon, which uses oxygen from the surrounding air to generate an intense, high-temperature blast wave that packs an incredible amount of energy into a small, localised area. In comparison, most conventional bombs consist of a mix of fuel and oxygen-generating substances. Thermobaric weapons consist of almost entirely 100% fuel, and rely on atmospheric oxygen.
• This bomb is designed to actually penetrate a building or the ground, the MOAB has a “proximity fuse” on its nose that ignites the warhead when it reaches a certain altitude above the ground.
• The height could vary between 50 feet and 1,000 feet. As the fuse blows, it blasts fuel into the air, which then atomises. It is followed by a secondary explosion which lights the fuel that has been atomised.

FOAB of Russia:

• 'Father of All Bombs', is a Russian answer to the MOAB. Aviation Thermobaric Bomb of Increased Power developed by Russia is reportedly capable of unleashing 44 tonnes of explosives. Also known as FOAB, the Russian bomb was successfully tested in 2007, four years after US tested MOAB.
• Reports claim that Russia's FOAB is four times more powerful than US' MOAB. The blast radius of the FOAB is 300 meters, almost double that of the MOAB, and the temperature produced is twice as high.
• The bomb is reportedly similar to the US military's GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast which is often unofficially called "Mother of All Bombs" derived from its official military acronym "MOAB". This weapon would therefore be the most powerful conventional (non-nuclear) weapon in the world. However, the veracity of Russia's claims concerning the weapon's size and power have been questioned by US defense analysts.
• The thermobaric device yields the equivalent of 44 tons of TNT using about seven tons of a new type of high explosive. Because of this, the bomb's blast and pressure wave have a similar effect to a small tactical nuclear weapon. The bomb works by detonating in mid-air. Most damage is inflicted by a supersonic shockwave and extremely high temperatures. Thermobaric weapons differ from conventional explosive weapons in that they generate a longer, more sustained blast wave with greater temperatures.
