Almost three decades after Bofors , the Indian Army has got it's first imported gun - the M777 ultra Howitzers manufactured by BAE Systems . Final nod for the 5000 crore rupee contract for 145 ultra light Howitzers was given two years ago in 2016 and two M777 ULH were handed over to Indian Army in May 2017 to generate range tables . The 155 mm Ultra Light Howitzer is an operationally tested medium gun . It is extremely versatile and can be transported underslung by helicopters or transport aircrafts . It weighs approximately 4200 Kgs and is capable of firing the M 982 Excalibur GPS guided ammunition . The M777 ULH is also capable of firing all 155 mm ammunition manufactured in India .
