Rescue work is progressing fast in Kerala, facing the biggest flood of 100 years. At least 216 people have died and more than 7 lakh 24 thousand thousand people have been displaced in the devastation caused by the flood. 5 thousand relief camps have been set up for the displaced persons. Kerala has suffered a loss of about Rs 20,000 crore by floods. NDRF, Army, Navy teams are busy providing relief material and medicines. Many government and non government organizations are also engaged in day-to-day relief work.
Over 1.63 lakh people have been rescued in the last five days. Road and rail traffic has been restored in most parts of the state. In order to rescue Kerala from the flood, the central government has announced a relief of Rs 600 crore. Earlier in 1924, there was a tremendous flood in Kerala where more than one thousand people died.
