    1. The Five Gurudwaras known as the Five Takhts (Royal Thrones) have a very special significance of the Sikh community. They are considered the seats of Sikh religious authority.
    2. Shri Akal Takht: It is the primary seat of Sikh religious authority and central altar for Sikh politics assembly. It is located in front of Golden Temple in Amritsar (Punjab). While the Golden Temple stands for spiritual guidance, the Akal Takht symbolizes the dispensing of justice and temp activity. Its foundation was laid by Guru Har Gobind sahib ji. The Akal Takht Sahib was a seat. The envoys and the ambassadors of the royal states were received here, in the darbar. It was judicial court where the cases of the public were decided; it was the highest offi ce deciding stratagem; it was the supreme seat of Sikh polity and it was the major centre of philosophical educational activities.     3. Takht Shri Damdama Sahib: Damdama Sahib is situated in the village of Talwandi Sabo near Bathinda. This is where Guru Gobind Singh stayed for nearly a year and compiled the fi nal edition of the Guru Granth known as the Damdama Sahib Bir in 1705. He added to the original version prepared by Guru Dev Ji the verses of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. A large number of new converts joined the fold of the Khalsa here. The fi rst Guru Granth Sahib hand written by Guru Gobind Singh resides here.
    4. Takht Shri Keshgarh Sahib: Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib (Sri Anandpur Sahib) is one of the most important sacred places of t Sikhs and is closely linked with their religious traditions and history. At this place, in 1699, on the Baisakhi day, Guru Gobind Singh ji created Khalsa by baptizing fi ve beloved Sikhs known as ‘Panj Pyaras’. This place is well known for the birth of Khalsa - the pure ones.
    5. Takht Shri Hazur Sahib: Hazur Sahib is on the banks of Godavari in Maharashtra. This is where Guru Gobind Singh left this world. The inner room of the temple is called Angitha Sahib). Takht Sri Hazur Sahib is the principal shrine at Nanded. The tenth Guru held his court and congregation here. It is the site of his own tent where he was convalescing after he was attacked by assassins. It is the place from where the tenth Guru rose to heaven. Guru ji dispatched Banda Singh with fi ve of his Sikhs to Punjab before the stabbing incident and told him to fi ght for justice and truth. Sachkhand (lit. region of Truth) had been used by Guru Nanak Dev to mean the abode of God. The present building of the Takht Sahib was constructed by Maharaja Ranjit Singh with money, artisans and labour sent from Punjab during early 1830s.
