India's first indigenous nuclear ballistic missile submarine INS Arihant which literally translates to 'annihilator of enemies' has recently successfully completed its first deterrence patrol . This means India now has a fully functional nuclear triad ... sixth country in the world to have this power . USA , Russia , China , UK and France are the other five nations who have a nuclear triad.

INS Arihant is the first product of India's top secret Advanced Technology Vessel Project which began in late 90s to construct the SSBNs or underwater leg of the nuclear triad. 6000 tonne Arihant was launched on 26th July , 2009 and commissioned in to the Indian Navy in 2016. It is armed with K 15 missiles with a range of 750 Km.
