On October 21, 1959, a patrol party of Central Reserve Police Force was attacked by Chinese troops in the Hot Spring area of Ladakh... A handful of policemen battled with great bravery and were successful in sending the Chinese troops back, but in the process 10 policemen lost their lives...Since then, every year, 21st October is observed as Police Commemoration Day - to pay homage to the policemen who make the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
This year on Police Commemoration Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated to the police a revamped National Police Memorial and a museum in the national capital...in recognition of the sacrifice made by police personnel since Independence. The Prime Minister also announced a decoration in the name of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose for police and paramilitary men engaged in disaster relief.
IN DEPTH focuses on the unsung heroes of India...their role in maintaining peace and order in the country and the history of policing.
