Kashmir is one of the most heavily militarised zones in the world. From encounters to border skirmishes, the Valley has seen violence almost everyday in the last three decades. According to a MHA report from 2013 to 2017, there have been 1,264 incidents of violence in which 1064 people were killed. While a majority of those killed were terrorists, a significant number of our security personnel were also martyred. With a view to reduce casualties among security forces in Kashmir, the Home Ministry has deployed the National Security Guard in the Valley.
