In the Kesavananda Bharati v. State of Kerala (1973) case, The Supreme Court reversed an earlier verdict and held that the Preamble formed part of the Constitution because it was separately passed after the enacting provisions had been passed. Hence Statement 1 is not correct. The Preamble has been amended only once so far, in 1976, by 42nd Constitution Amendment Act, which has added three new words - Socialist, Secular and integrity – to the Preamble. The Preamble is non-justiciable i.e. its provisions are not enforceable in a court of law.
