The Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 empowers the Central Government to make the rules for the regulation and control of noise producing and generating sources. The regulation activities related to GMOs is governed under Hazardous Substances Management under the provisions of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 through the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF).
