DRIP stands for Dam Rehabilitation & Improvement Project. It is funded by the World Bank to the tune of Rs. 3466 crore till June 2020. The programme was in news as the government has extended the timeline of the project. DRIP is a state sector scheme with central component to improve the safety and operational performance of selected dams.
The project was launched in 2012 by the Central Water Commission under the Ministry of Water Resources and Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation with assistance from the World Bank. The programme was originally for a duration of 6 years with closure in June 2018 with total cost of 2100 crore rupees with statement component of 1968 crore rupees and central component of 132 crore rupees.
