Q) Consider the following statements in context of Corruption Perception Index 2021, as released by Transparency International.
Which of the above statements is/are correct?
a) 1 and 2 only
b) 1 and 3 only
c) 2 and 3 only
d) 1,2 and 3
Answer: B
Explanation:
The Corruption Perception Index 2021(CPI) was released by Transparency International, which is an international non-governmental organization founded in 1993 based in Berlin, Germany. Its notable publication include Global corruption Barometer and CPI. Overall the CPI shows that control of corruption has stagnated or worsened in 86% of countries over the last decade.
Index relies on 13 independent data sources and uses a scale of zero to 100, where zero is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean. So statement 2 is incorrect .
This year top countries are Denmark, Finland and New Zealand, each with a score of 88. Bottom performers are South Sudan with score of 11, Syria(13), Somalia(13). India ranked 85 among 180 countries (86 in 2020). So India improved its ranks marginally(Statement 1 is correct) but country score i.e 40 has remained stagnant over the last decade. There are concerns over the country’s democratic status, as fundamental freedoms and institutional checks and balances decay.
