The Central Legislative Assembly had 145 seats, of which 105 were elected by the public. The Assembly was opened on 21 January 1924 by Viceroy Lord Reading. Swaraj Party contested to the central legislature in November 1923 and won 42 seats out of 104.It passed a resolution on 18th February 1924 requesting government to establish fully responsible government in India.
