Gopinath Bordoloi's political life started when he joined the Indian National Congress as a volunteer in that year. He actively participated in the fight for independence. He was arrested in 1922 due to active participation in the Non-co-operation movement and was put in jail for a year. Rani Gaidinliu, joined the freedom struggle at the age 13, and was sentenced to life imprisonment at 16. In 1966, she organised a resistance movement against the Naga National Council (NNC), which led insurgents Moje Riba after joining with Indian National Congress (INC) became the first president of INC from Arunachal Pradesh. Kanaklata Barua was an Indian freedom fighter from Assam who was shot dead while leading a procession bearing the National Flag during the Quit India Movement of 1942.
