The MPLAD scheme was introduced in 1993. It is implemented by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). It is a centrally sponsored scheme in which each MP has the choice to suggest to the District administration (DA) for works to the tune of Rs.5 Crores per annum, non-lapsable in nature, to be taken up in the constituency. Further, out of the total amount, 15% and 7.5% funds must be entitled to areas with SC and ST population respectively. It has been recently approved beyond 12th Plan till 31 March, 2020.
