The new law seeks to replace the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) 1986 and is in line with the revised UN guidelines on consumer protection. Important Features of the Consumer Protection Bill 2018 -
•   Central Consumer Protection Authority, will act as a national authority to regulate and prevent violation of consumer rights, and to initiate class action including enforcing recall, refund and return of products, etc.
•   It envisages provisions for product liability action on account of harm caused to consumers due to a defective product or by deficiency in services against a product manufacturer, service provider or seller.
