Which of the following is/are major coal producing sites of India?
1. Jharia
2. Raniganj
3. Koderma
4. Bellary-Hospet
Select the correct answer using codes given below
1,2 and 3 only
2 and 3 only
1 and 2 only
All of the above
Third option is correct. India has abundant domestic reserves of coal. Most of these are in the states of Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh. Kodarma/Koderma in Jharkhand is known as the Mica capital of world due to rich mica deposits. Mica is an important mineral for electronics and electrical industry. Southern India has good quality Iron ore (in Bellary-Hospet region, Chikmagalur etc.) as well as limestone. But south India lacks good quality coking coal. Hence the industry is not well developed in the region and most of the iron ore is exported directly through New Mangalore port.
