The HRD Ministry has recently released All India Higher Education Survey. As per the survey the Gross Enrollment Ratio in higher education has registered an increase from 24.5% in 2015-16 to 25.2% in 2016-17. India is aiming to increase the Gross Enrollment Ratio of 30% by 2020.
China has a gross enrollment ratio of 43.39% and US has GER of 85.8%. The survey has also seen India to witness best Gender Parity Index in past 7 years – 0.94 in 2016-17 from 0.86 in 2010-11. The survey also remarked an increase in college density and number of foreign students however, the later shown only a marginal increase.
