1. It was framed by a Constituent Assembly comprising of members elected by the People’s representatives in Provincial legislatures.
2. Though framed by a constituent assembly, Constitution of India was adopted only after it was approved by the general public through a referendum.
3. Citizens of India participated directly or indirectly by way of notes, debates, and suggestions in the constituent assembly.
4. The Constitution while providing basic rights to the individuals puts restrictions on the powers of state and its organs.
Select the correct answer using the codes given below

1, 3 and 4
1, 2 and 4
2, 3 and 4
The Constituent Assembly was indirectly elected by the people through their representatives in the Provincial Legislatures through means of Single Transferrable Vote system. This ensured that acts done by such assembly would have popular legitimacy and popular authority. Second statement is incorrect as Indian constitution was not adopted after a referendum. Though the constitution making process was being carried out by constituent assembly, its proceedings and debates were extensively covered in the media thereby allowing people to participate through media, notes, letters etc. The section on fundamental rights and directive principles give the citizens some justiciable and some non-justiciable rights and puts restrictions on the power of the state thereby increasing the acceptability and legitimacy of the constitution. The people are certain that once enshrined in the constitution these principles cannot be violated by any government.
